How to Transform Your Life

Look, we’ve all heard the definition of insanity so much it’s starting to sound trite: ‘Insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results.’ But sadly, it’s true. If we always do what we’ve always done we’ll always get what we always got.

So how do we break out of a humdrum existence? How do we get from where we are to where we hope to be? How do we really change our life?

The answer is simple and yet it seems so difficult, so elusive. If we want our dreams to come true, it we want to burst out of mediocrity and create a world we’ve only dared dream to live, we must change. But how exactly do we transform our life?

The Bible gives us the answer. It challenges us to not be conformed to the world, but be transformed by the renewing of our mind (Romans 12:2). To understand this, we must explore how to be a spiritual nonconformist.

Religion defines 'worldly' as shallow, superficial, concerned with sensual pleasure and temporal things. While those things factor in, worldliness means more than that. I would suggest that most of the world is anxious, depressed, scared, bored, frustrated, empty, unhappy, lonely and unfulfilled. Who in their right mind would want to conform to that?

Jesus yearns to give us far more for us. He came to give us an abundant life. God delights in the prosperity of his servants (Psalm 35:27). He sent His Son so we could have eternal life. That’s more than a heavenly reward; it’s a cornucopia of tangible benefits in this life. William Barclay says eternal life is living the life God lives, and I can assure you God is not bored, empty, depressed, frustrated or unfulfilled.

So how do we truly transform our life? What empowers us to renew our minds? Again, traditional Christian teaching omits some very crucial things. Most churches offer people only words. Most seminaries merely train preachers to talk. While it’s true that words matter and solid teaching helps, information alone can’t offer us profound transformation. That’s why the Church has similar rates of adultery, divorce and antidepressant usage as the rest of the world. The Church is pitifully conformed to the world. Words alone can’t renew our minds.

The mind is a complex organism. This 3.3 pound organ interacts with our emotions, our past experiences and the things we fill our head with moment by moment. Teaching alone is insufficient to renew our minds. We also need healing and a fresh start.

That fresh start comes when God’s Spirit begins a good work within us. Unfortunately many church goers have only read and heard about the Holy Spirit. Perhaps that’s why 20% of the people in a church do 80% percent of the giving and work of the ministry. Maybe 80% are functionally unconverted. It’s easy to find out. If you don’t know if you’ve been born again you haven’t!

But beyond conversion, we also need healing and restoration. Jesus was named Christ because God anointed Him to heal the broken, liberate the bruised and release those who are bound by sin, misery, depression, self-hatred and self destruction. And if only 20% of ‘Christians’ are converted, a far smaller percentage have ever found healing for their deepest brokenness.

Fortunately Jesus passed this incredible healing and transforming ministry on to us. God has given gifted healers to His Church to help His people break free of every torment and wound from their past and empower us to embrace the glorious destiny found only in fulfilling His high calling for us. God has a magnificent plan for your life; one designed to give you a beautiful future and a genuine hope. His high calling is uniquely suited to how He made you. The way you look, the family you came from, your intellect and skill set, your training, gifts and education, all are strategically designed to suit His fantastic calling on your life.

Yet if you are to really transform your life by renewing your mind, you will need healing. I know this because the incredible destiny He has in store for me comes into greater fruition with everything I do to advance my own personal growth and healing.

You can benefit from my 26 years of leading growth and healing retreats this September. I promise it will not only change your mind but in unique and very wonderful ways it will renew it. In doing so, it will give you a dramatic new capacity to transform your life, and so help you change the very world in which you live. The cost for doing this in miniscule compared to the awesome benefits.
